          Students sitting exams in Summer 2020 need to be aware of a ‘Contingency Date’ of the 24th June 2020.

          If an exam board needs to postpone an exam in the event of a local or national incident, this date is the 持续 possible date the exam could be rescheduled for.  So all students need to remain available up to and including the 24th June, in case any of their exams are rescheduled. 

          In line with the current Coronavirus situation, we need to highlight the importance of the contingency day. As per previous correspondence, the contingency day is Wednesday, 24 June 2020. It is not a single day but the 持续 day exams can take place. This means that all exam candidates must be available to sit exams from the date of their first exam until Wednesday, 24 June 2020.  This decision is not a school decision and applies to all students in all schools. It is highly likely that exam dates could be changed. If you are not available on any of the dates during the exam period, you will receive zero marks for that paper.

          External Examinations Guidance

          We will make every attempt to ensure that External Examinations continue to take place as scheduled by the Examination boards, and where possible will draft staff into school to conduct exams as timetabled, including where the school is closed to normal lessons. This includes occasions where the Local Education Authority announces that all schools are closed.

          In the unlikely event that an external examination has to be cancelled a message will be placed on the school website as early as possible.

          The boards do not allow deviations to the timetable, therefore all exam students must make every effort to attend school to sit their exam at the scheduled time.  Whilst it is possible to accept students who are delayed please be aware that the JCQ regulations state that the Awarding Bodies may not mark exam papers if candidates arrive later than one hour after the published start time.

          The Exam Awarding Bodies do not grant any special consideration for students who fail to turn up for their exams.

          Statement of Entry

          All students will receive a Statement of Entry from school, prior to each examination season, indicating the subjects they are being entered for and the levels of entry where applicable. Students must check all this information is correct. Students must check all other information on their Statement of Entry very carefully, in particular personal details (date of birth, spelling of names) as these will appear on the final certificates. If changes to names are required after certificates have been issued the Examination Boards make a charge of approximately £35.00 for which the student is responsible. 

          Invigilators

          The school employs invigilators to conduct the examinations. Students are expected to behave in a respectful manner towards all invigilators and follow their instructions at all times. 

          Invigilators are in the examination rooms to supervise the conduct of the examination. They will distribute and collect the examination papers, tell candidates when to start and finish the examination, hand out extra writing paper if required and deal with any problems that occur during the examination, for example if a candidate is feeling ill.

          Please note that invigilators cannot discuss the examination paper with you or explain the questions. 

          Pupils who are disruptive or behave in an unacceptable manner will be removed from the examination room by invigilators and members of the Senior/Extended Leadership Team.

          Three general suggestions would be to use:

          Summer Exam Results Days 2019: 

          GCE (AS/A2) - Thursday, 15 August 2019

          Year 13: A2 Examination results will be available in school on Thursday, 15 August (8.00am - 10.00am) in the Sixth Form Centre.

          Year 12: AS Examination results will be available on Thursday, 15 August (from 10.00am) from the School Reception.

          If you are unable to come on the day and would like your results emailing to you, please send a request to: anne.mcnicholas@whgs-academy.org.

          GCSE - Thursday, 22 August 2019
          9.30am - 12noon in the Great Hall

          Entry to Sixth Form: Members of staff will be available on Thursday, 22 August to offer help and advice about sixth form courses and future choices. 

          If you are unable to come to the school before 12noon on Friday, 23 August, it is essential that you or your parents/carers contact Miss Valvona, Sixth Form Administrator (0161 232 5559 or via email nichola.valvona@whgs-academy.org) to confirm your intention of taking up your place in Year 12. 

          We will not be able to hold your place if we have not heard from you by 12noon on Friday, 23 August.

          Post Results Enquiries

          Exam results may be subject to amendment through the Enquiries about Results services (EAR). Please find the information below regarding the services which are available. 

          Students must see Subject Leaders in the first instance if they require any of these services after exam results have been issued. They must then see the Examinations Officer for more information (deadlines and payment details).

          Key Dates and Deadlines for Reviews - November 2018

          For the GCSE November 2018 examination series the final closing date for awarding bodies to receive requests for copies of scripts to support reviews of marking is Thursday, 24 January 2019.

          For the GCSE November 2018 examination series the final closing date for Review of Results Services (RoRs) is Thursday 14 February 2019.

          Requests received after the respective closing date will not be accepted. All applications must be paid for in full (please see the Exams team for further information on fees).

          Reviews of Results (RoRs and Access to Scripts)

          Service 1 (Clerical re-check)

          This a re-check of all clerical procedures leading to the issue of a result.

          • You must contact the Exams Team at WHGS to submit your application on your behalf
          • Candidate consent is required
          • The deadline for completion is within 10-calendar days of the awarding body receiving the request.

          This service will include the following checks:

          • That all parts of the script have been marked;
          • The totalling of marks;
          • The recording of marks;

          The outcome of the clerical re-check will be reported along with a statement of the total marks awarded for each unit, or component, included in the enquiry.

          Service 2 (Review of Marking)

          This is a post-results review of the original marking to ensure that the agreed mark scheme has been applied correctly. It is not a re-marking of the candidate’s script.

          • You must contact the Exams Team at WHGS to submit your application on your behalf
          • Candidate consent is required and must be held on file by the centre
          • The deadline for completion is within 20-calendar days of the awarding body receiving the request.

          This service will include:

          • The clerical re-checks detailed above in Service 1
          • Review of Marking;

          Priority Service 2 (Review of Marking)

          This is a priority post-results review of the original marking to ensure that the agreed mark scheme has been applied correctly. It is not a re-marking of the candidate’s script

          This service is only available if a GCE A-level candidates place in higher education id dependent on the outcome. 

          • You must contact the Exams Team at WHGS to submit your application on your behalf
          • Candidate consent is required and must be held on file by the centre
          • The deadline for completion is within 15-calendar days of the awarding body receiving the request.

          Service 3 (Review of Moderation)

          This is a review of the original moderation to ensure that the assessment criteria have bene fairly, reliably and consistently applied. 

          It is not a re-moderation of candidates’ work

          • You must contact the Exams Team at WHGS to submit your application on your behalf
          • Candidate consent is NOT required
          • The deadline for completion is within 35-calendar days of the awarding body receiving the request

          The review of moderation will be undertaken on the original sample of candidates’ work

          Access to Scripts (ATS) GCSE and GCE 

          Centres may request:

          • Copies to support reviews or marking which will be provided to centres (‘script’ refers to the written work of a candidate).
          • Copies of scripts to support teaching and learning (candidates who grant their permission have the right to anonymity of their scripts before use).
          • You must contact the Exams Team at WHGS to submit your application on your behalf
          • Candidate consent is required – Written consent from the candidate is also accepted by email.
          • The deadline for completion is within 35-calendar days of the awarding body receiving the request

          Appeals

          WHGS has a formal appeals procedure (available on request).

          Collection of Certificates

          Following the summer exams, certificates will be available for collection from the school School Reception from November between the hours of 9.30am and 2.30pm

          Certificates belong to the student and, therefore, cannot be issued to any other individual without a signed letter of authorisation from the student and identification of the person collecting. 

          Certificates can be sent via the post. As per exam regulations, the certificates will have to be sent by Recorded Delivery. There is a fee of £3.50 to cover this service. 

          It is extremely important exam certificates are collected and kept secure as they are required for Higher Education and workplaces often request them. 

          • Summer Exams - certificates available for collection in November. 
          • November Exams - certificates available for collection in February.
